Entrepreneur: So Easy A Child Could Do It!
As far back as I can remember, I have always dreamed of running my own successful business. When I was just around ten years old; I can recall making curtains for family members out of extra material and seam tape in efforts to turn a quick buck. I have started more businesses as a child that I have developed various skills in the fields of interior decorating, space planning and construction design. Now, as years have passed; I finally realize that I was born to be an entrepreneur.
In the 70’s it was uncommon for someone trust their child to start a business and become successful doing it. Parents were certain that the best way a child could develop a marketable skill was to go to school and learn a traditional trade and work for someone else. I am not saying that this is not the right method of rearing a child, but what I hope you take away from this is a different perspective. Those days are long gone and children are creating wealth from their very own bedrooms.
Children are the most creative, daring and brutally honest people in the world. If given free reigns, they could actually teach some adults a thing or two. Don’t be afraid to let kids be kids. Sure they will always need your guidance, but just think of all the innovative ideas that are left on the table by not allowing them to express themselves creatively.
With technology at their fingertips and unlimited potential, the world is their oyster. With Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and others alike, you could have a fortune sitting on your child’s desktop and not even realize it. Often times, parents like to plan the lives for their children; directing their steps down to the last second of each day. Nevertheless, the plans one may have set for their child may not be the direction in which they would desire take. Letting your child make their own decisions in life may seem a bit uncertain, but chances are; you have put enough positive guidance in their lives that you should trust their choices to become an entrepreneur. Parents should take the time to examine the possibilities of having a business minded youth and cultivate their ability to conceptualize their own destiny.
Bottom line, it takes more than just the child having the idea to create; it also requires the support of family and friends. One should also prepare the child for developing and idea with direction and guidelines. Just because it’s a good idea; doesn’t make it a great idea. It is your responsibility as a parent to educate your child, structure is key in giving your child the foundation they need In order to explore the world in entrepreneurship.
